Medieval Notation for Modern Times
About the Neume Project
Update
This project was paused over ten years ago. Since then the evolution of technology has rendered the project obsolete, based as it was on Adobe Flash. The code base could easily be migrated to use Adobe AIR, to be deployed as a desktop (and mobile) app. Although Adobe has dropped support for AIR, it has been sold it to Harman. Good news? Not exactly. Without a full-fledged IDE, writing code and packaging for distribution is simply not viable, and the IDE I used reached end-of-life years ago, and cannot be used without a yearly subscription of close to $500.
For those still curious about how it worked, there is a video you can view on YouTube
What is it?
The Neume Project is about creating an easy-to-use, yet fully flexible and powerful application for creating, editing, and managing musical scores in Gregorian chant notation. It consists of two components:
- Development of the on-line editor application
- Development of an on-line repository for saving and sharing Gregorian chant scores
See the development road map for details.
